Cassandra (Reyn) French

Cassandra (Cassie, if you happen to meet her in meat-space) is an odd creature of many names who grew up reading books about people, animals, and animal people. Over the years she dabbled in creating stories of her own, only to abandon each project as distraction took hold. Then, in 2019, something clicked. She hopped tracks to the female line, and the stories started emerging. Now, she writes, mostly for the sake of her own sanity, about animal people in crisis, with a background of queer concerns.

About the pen names:

  • Reyn (pronounced rain) French writes mostly fantasy adventure and literary fantasy. These stories heavily feature non-human and LGBTQ+ characters in lead and supporting roles.
  • C.M. French would write non-furry stuff, but Reyn keeps convincing her that the animal people stories are much more interesting.
  • Summer Reyn writes adults-only fiction, very rarely, mostly for herself, and slowly. You have been warned… 😉

My Work

  • Melody in Winter: A short story about that moment when someone who doesn’t quite fit discovers the possibilities their culture denies them. Literary fantasy, set in my Final Dark Universe (#0). About 7,000 words. PG for brief description of gore.
  • Canyon Shadow: Sometimes, the hardest things to face are the things that scare only us. A suspense fantasy set in my Final Dark Universe (#0.5). About 34,000 words. PG-13 for suspense, and references to self harm. (COMING SOON!)
  • “I am Cassandra”: A work of short prose based on a dream I had shortly after coming out as a trans woman to family and friends. Also a bit of an experiment with design.
